Wings 3 Ways: Spicy Asian Ginger, Buffalo, and Smoked Honey BBQ


Nothing is better than some juicy chicken wings!  Places like Buffalo Wild Wings gives you countess options on sauces, so I decided it was about time that we had some options when we make them at home.  We made a traditional buffalo sauce, a smoked honey BBQ sauce, and an asian spicy ginger sauce (which is probably my favorite).  I highly recommend all three of these and it is totally easy to make them all for dinner one night!










Spicy Asian Ginger Wings:

[What you need]

1 pound chicken wings
1 cup ginger beer
1/4 cup soy sauce
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoon minced ginger
2 habanero chili peppers, split in half
2 tablespoons honey
1/4 cup chopped green onion
1/4 cup grapeseed oil
salt
pepper

[What to do]

Preheat the oven to 400.  Spray a baking sheet generously with cooking spray.  Rinse off the wings and pat them dry with some paper towels.  Put them in a bag and add 1/2 cup ginger beer, 2 tablespoons soy sauce, vegetable oil, and red pepper flakes.  Marinate them in the fridge for at least an hour.  Then when you are ready to cook them, put them on your prepared pan and put them in the oven for 35-40 minutes, flipping half way through until cooked to 165 in the middle.

If they are not crispy enough on the outside, put them under the broiler until crispy on the outside.

While the wings are cooking, you can make the sauce.

Melt the butter in a sauce pan over medium heat and saute the ginger for about 2 minutes.  Then add the remaining ginger beer and soy sauce and the honey.  Stir to combine and add in the peppers and let it all simmer for 6 minutes.  Season with salt and pepper.  Remove from the heat and add in the green onions.

When the wings are done, remove them from the oven and put them in a bowl, remove the pepper halves from the sauce toss the wings with the sauce and enjoy!

Traditional Buffalo Wings:

[What you need]
1 pound chicken wings
3/4 cup Franks Red Hot Sauce
1/2 stick of butter
1/4 cup grapeseed oil
Salt
Pepper

[What to do]

Preheat the oven to 400.  Spray a baking sheet generously with cooking spray.  Rinse off the wings and pat them dry with some paper towels.  Put them in a bag and toss with the grapeseed oil and salt and pepper until completely coated.  Put them on your prepared pan and put them in the oven for 35-40 minutes, flipping half way through until cooked to 165 in the middle.

If they are not crispy enough on the outside, put them under the broiler until crispy on the outside.

While the wings are cooking, you can make the sauce.

Combine the hot sauce and butter (cut up into chunks) into a microwave safe bowl.  Microwave in 45 second intervals, stirring between each one until the butter is melted and incorporated.

When the wings are done, remove them from the oven and put them in a bowl, toss them with the sauce and enjoy!

Smoked Honey BBQ Wings:

[What you need]

1 pound chicken wings
1 1/4 cups ketchup
1/3 cup white distilled vinegar
1/4 cup molasses
1/2 cup honey
1 teaspoon liquid smoke
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
1/4 cup grapeseed oil
salt
pepper

[What to do]

Preheat the oven to 400.  Spray a baking sheet generously with cooking spray.  Rinse off the wings and pat them dry with some paper towels.  Put them in a bag and toss with the grapeseed oil and salt and pepper until completely coated.  Put them on your prepared pan and put them in the oven for 35-40 minutes, flipping half way through until cooked to 165 in the middle.

Combine the rest of your ingredients into a sauce pan.  Mix until well combined.  Heat over medium until it starts to boil.  Then turn it down to low and let it simmer for 5 minutes.  Just a note, this makes a lot more BBQ sauce then you need for the wings, you can store the extra in an air tight container and then make some BBQ chicken the next day!

When the wings are done, remove them from the oven and put them in a bowl, toss them with the sauce and enjoy!
